Bring Humanity Into Conservation

When you give to Native Conservancy, you empower a Native-led and Native-run effort to protect ancestral homelands and the unique habitats of northwestern Alaska. You can support our innovative programs by giving energy (time, money or love) to the frontline Indigenous and rural communities who choose to live from the land and sea. Jump onboard and help us build a regenerative and resilient future for the next seven generations!

Today is a good day to start!

NATIVE REGENERATIVE FUND

The Native Regenerative Fund will help Native Conservancy provide support to Native farmers to grow kelp in Alaska, and assist them in starting their own farms. To address the significant barriers to entry in the regenerative seaweed farming industry, these funds will assist Native farmers with permit and lease fees, farming equipment, and startup costs.

“I decided to start Native Conservancy so it would not just protect the endangered plants and animals but also endangered peoples and their culture. The best thing we can possibly do is create a new avenue, a new way of funding, and bring humanity into conservation.” Dune Lankard, Founder and President, Native Conservancy

OCEANBACK INITIATIVE

Native Conservancy’s OceanBack Initiative helps Native farmers learn how to grow kelp and start their own kelp farms. To address the significant barriers to entry in the regenerative seaweed farming industry, these funds will assist Native farmers with permit and lease fees, farming equipment, diver training and startup costs. Our ocean is in great distress – suffering from acidification and rising temperatures. Now corporations are swooping in to privatize the ocean. It is critical that we move quickly, and together, to create a blue-green economy focused on climate justice.

LANDBACK INITIATIVE

Native Conservancy has been an active organizer, defender, and Alaskan leader in numerous LandBack campaigns in the Copper River Delta, Prince William Sound, and the Gulf of Alaska over the past two decades. We have been able to preserve and restore 1.5 million acres of wild salmon habitat in the Gulf of Alaska. Your support will help us stay alert and work to get our land LandBack.

RECLAIMING LAND & WATER TIES INITIATIVE

Our Reclaiming Land & Water Ties Initiative reignites the historical connection to Mother Earth through Native subsistence practices. Our Elders Subsistence Program will deliver fish, deer, bear, and sea otter hides to our Native Elders, helping promote spiritual, physical and community wellness. Your donation will help foster food sovereignty and ensure that Indigenous Alaskans can access their ancestral waters by helping them secure hunting and fishing permits. It’s critical that we have the resources to feed our people and maintain our Indigenous way of life.

Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

One of the most valuable contributions is your time. Reach out to learn more about how you can donate your time or apply for an internship by submitting a letter of interest and resume to info@nativeconservancy.org.

“When I learned of the tireless work and conservation vision of Eyak Athabaskan leader Dune Lankard, who was working to protect the entire Copper River Delta watershed (17 million acres) and the Chugach National Forest (5.5 million acres), I quickly realized that the best way to support the dreams, wild food sources and the vision of the Eyak people was to empower them by helping them further the first Native-led, Native-owned land trust in America, to see that their ancestral lands, traditional subsistence food sources and inherent rights as ancestral stewards was forever preserved and a model for others to replicate.” April Minnich-Bucksbaum, The Baum Foundation
